Coolant Temperature Sensor/Switch (For Computer): Testing and Inspection
ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE (ECT) SENSOR INSPECTION1. Drain Engine Coolant
2. Remove ECT Sensor.
3. Inspect ECT Sensor.
- Using an ohmmeter. measure the resistance between the terminals.
Resistance | Temperature
-20° C (-4° F) | 10.0 - 20.0 k Ohms
0° C (32° F) | 4.0 - 7.0 k Ohms
20° C (68° F) | 2.0 - 3.0 k Ohms
40° C (104° F) | 0.9 - 1.3 k Ohms
60° C (140° F) | 0.4 - 0.7 k Ohms
80° C (176° F) | 0.2 - 0.4 k Ohms
^ If the resistance is not as specified. replace the ECT Sensor.
4. Reinstall ECT Sensor.
5. Refill with engine coolant.
